Douglas D. “Doug” Gibbons, 82, of Erie passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Crawford County Care Center. He was born on April 5, 1938 in Erie, Pa., the son of the late Isa “Ike” Len Gibbons and Alena Ruth (Gibson) Gibbons-Morgan. Doug graduated from North East High School and served in the United States Naval Reserves. He was a self-employed dairy farmer for many years and was also a bus driver for the Wattsburg Area School District and Coach USA. Doug held a number of positions at the Erie County Cooperative Extension, Erie County Fair, Erie County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, Wattsburg Local 1 of the PSEA and the Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Company. Doug enjoyed square dancing, horseback riding, boating, fishing, riding snowmobiles and following his two favorite sports teams; the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. He was preceded in death by his son, Markus Andrew Gibbons; and brother, Michael Gary Gibbons. Doug is survived by his sons, Matthew Gibbons (Melissa) of Erie and Michael Gibbons (Michelle) of Manheim, Pa., daughters, Michelle Perrine (Dan) of Meadville and Marcy MacPherson (Kevin) of Port Orange, Fla., and his foster-sons, Brian Viglione (Vivian) of Marina Del Rey, Calif. and Brent Viglione (Kathryn) of Hillsboro, Oregon. He is further survived by his sister Sharon Gibbons Collarile Hartman of West Chester, Pa., as well as 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Greenfield Church Cemetery on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 2 p.m. for a graveside service. Officiating the service will be Pastor Brently Pastelak. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Doug’s name to the Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Company. Please send condolences to elkinfh.com.
