Nancy M. Bemis Wood, age 75, of North East died on Wednesday October 21, 2015 at her residence.


She was born on April 30, 1940 in Erie, PA to the late Carl and Jeannette Bemis.


Nancy graduated from Wattsburg High School.She lived in Greenfield Township until she married Robert in 1959 and moved to Harborcreek. Nancy was a homemaker and co-owner of Wood Farms (Pennsylvania Century Farm, established in 1882) as well as raising four children.


She was a member of the Concord Steppers and Dancing Flames square dancing group. She was a farmer's wife; driving tractor, cooking and helping with the grape harvest. Nancy also enjoyed time spent in the vineyards with her grape tying ladies. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Nancy also enjoyed wintering in Zephyrhills, FL at the Southern Charm RV Resort.She was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church in North East where she was a deaconess, worked with vacation Bible school, member of the Homebuilders Sunday School class as well as an American Baptist Woman where she served as treasurer for many years.Although most important, besides the love of the Lord, was her family. Her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews provided her great joy and laughter.


In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Bemis; sister, Judy Bennett.She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert A. Wood, Sr., whom she married August 22, 1959; children, Carol Wood of Harborcreek, Linda Erickson (James) of Harborcreek, Cindy Martin (David) of North East, Robert Wood Jr. (Jeanne) of Harborcreek; grandchildren, John Erickson (Amy), Jessica Wolfrom (Carl); brother, David Bemis (Norma); sister, Susan Hoyt (Jeff); brother-in-law, Roscoe Bennett; sister-in-law, JoAnn Bemis all of North East.


Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake St., North East on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday at 11:00 am at Greenfield Baptist Church, 9028 Williams Rd, North East, PA 16428. Officiating Rev. David Waldo. Interment South Harborcreek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Greenfield Baptist Church. Please send condolences to www.elkinfh.com.
