Richard I. Welder, age 74, of North East died on Sunday November 10, 2013 at  Erickson’s Heritage House after a battle with Lou Garrett’s Disease.

He was born on June 26, 1939 in Grampian, PA to the late Clifford and Faye Hartzfeld Welder.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Welder; a sister, Ruby Welder; and brother, Leroy Welder.

Richard was a mechanic all his life and was employed at Kloss Sales & Service in North East in the early 60’s.  Later he continued as a mechanic in Maryland for several years.  Richard enjoyed spending time with his family & grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Mildred K. Johnson Welder; sons, Richard Welder of Maryland & Walter (Jackie) Welder of North Carolina; brothers, Martin (Ruthie) & Clare (Violia); sisters, Mary Ellen (Ellie) Welder, Rosellee Hullihan, & Shirley Joiner (James) all of Grampian; grandchildren, Christopher, Amber, Walter, Kaitlin; great-grandson, Cohen.  Sister-in-laws, Sandee Ciminnisi (Sam), Barbara Doyle (Joe), Dora Kifer (Jim) all of North East, and several nephew, nieces, and cousins.

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.  Officiating Rev. Dr. Mark Hecht.  Interment North East Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to The ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Suit 250, Calabasas Hills, CA, 91301.
