Robert A. Wood
Robert A. Wood, age 79, of Harborcreek, passed
away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at his residence.
He was born on February 19, 1939, to the late George
and Kathryn (Webster) Wood.
Robert was a lifelong resident
of Harborcreek Township and
graduated from Harbor Creek High
School, where he was active in FFA.
He was the owner and operator of
Wood Farms (Pennsylvania Century
Farms, established in 1882). Robert
spent his entire life as a dedicated,
hardworking farmer, growing
concord grapes and raising animals.
Robert was a member of the North
East Fruit Growers, where he formerly served as President.
He also served as a Director of the National
Grape Cooperative for several years. He was a member
of the Erie Power Squadron, where he formerly
served as Commander. Robert, together with his
beloved wife, Nancy, were members of the Concord
Steppers and Dancing Flames. He was also a caller
for round dancing. He loved his farm, especially his
tractors, both old and new. Robert’s prize possession
was his 1930 Model A, which won several local car
show awards. He cherished his time spent during the
winter months in Zephyrhills, Florida at the Southern
Charm RV Resort. Robert passed on to his children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the love of
family and farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 54
years, Nancy (Bemis) Wood; and brother, Gerald Wood.
Robert is survived by his brother, Bill Wood (Wilma)
of Florida; daughters, Carol Wood of Harborcreek,
Linda Erickson (James) of Harborcreek and Cindy
Wood of North East; son, Robert Wood Jr. (Jeanne) of
Harborcreek; grandchildren, John Erickson (Amy),
Jessica Wolfrom (Carl), Allyson McChesney (Sean),
and Megan Martin; and great-grandchildren, Logan,
Madison, Jordan, Paige, and Blaine; as well as family
friend, Jeremiah Pfadt.
Private funeral arrangements are being handled
by the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake
Street, North East. Private interment will be held
at South Harborcreek Cemetery. Memorials may be
made to Harborcreek Historical Society, 5661 Buffalo
Road, Erie, PA 16510.
