Winifred Fisher Obituary

Winifred Fisher -Devoted Daughter, Wife, Mother, and Grandmother

Winifred Fisher, age 94, of North East, passed to her rest on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at LECOM at Elmwood Gardens three years after hip-replacement surgery. The only daughter of Lewis and Margaret Wilkinson, she was a 1948 graduate of North East High School, where she met her future husband, William Fisher, in a 10th-grade English class. Voted “most artistic” by her graduating class, Winnie enjoyed oil painting and drawing caricatures. She was also devoted to her family, acting as a caregiver to her widowed, elderly mother for 12 years. An astute student of Scripture, Winnie was a lifelong member of the Erie Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she served as a deaconess, vacation Bible school leader and on the kitchen and social committees. During the early 1970s, Winnie provided childcare services; she is still fondly remembered by many now-grown-up local community members. She (and her wonderful apple pies!) will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers (Eldred G. Wilkinson, Louis R. Wilkinson (Audrey), and Phillip A. Wilkinson (Mary). She is survived by her daughter, Susan Cutter (Richard), with whom she lived prior to her surgery; grandson William Cutter; and many nieces and nephews. According to her wishes, there will be no viewings or funeral service. Burial will be private, and she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, awaiting Resurrection Morning (1 Thess. 4:16). Arrangements are being entrusted to the William D. Elkin Funeral Home in North East. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Erie SDA Church, 190 Hunter Willis Road, Erie, PA 16509 or to LECOM at Elmwood Gardens, 2628 Elmwood Avenue, Erie, PA 16508. The family would like to extend special thanks to her nursing home staff members, as well as AseraCare hospice workers for their care and compassion over the last three years.
