Walter Rexford Gross, age 91, of Harborcreek, passed away on Tuesday September 26, 2023 at his residence with his loving family at his side.
He was born on March 7, 1932 in Harborcreek, PA the son of the late Henry Willis and Hattie B. (Kickendorf) Gross.
Walter graduated from North East High School in 1952 and was a veteran of the Korean War Era serving in the United States Army.
He was formerly employed as a surveyor by Hill & Hill Engineering and was the Harborcreek Township Parks Department foreman until retirement in 1997.
Walter loved taking rides with his wife in his 1929 Model A car and spending winters in Fort McCoy, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Neil Gross and Robert Gross; and sister, Bet Panczyk.
Walter is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara (Beatty) Gross; daughter, Valerie Peterson (Wayne) of Harborcreek; son, Bill Gross (Terri) of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Kyle Peterson, Shawna Backhoff, Corry Gross, Kody Gross, and Kirby Gross; and great-grandchildren, Vanessa Peterson, Kevin Stafford, Jr. and Leslie Backhoff, Bryce Gross, and Hadley Gross.
Family and friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Saturday September 30th from 12:00 pm until time of a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Officiating the service is Rev. Mary Stewart. Interment with Full Military Honors will be held at North East Cemetery. Please send condolences to elkinfh.com.
