Virginia L. McCombs Banks, age 90, of North East, passed away on Saturday October 8, 2022 at Parkside North East. She was born on September 6, 1932 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Henry Louis and Henriette (Biermann) McCombs. Virginia was a long-time member of the McClure Avenue Presbyterian Church and an integral member of the St. John’s Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. During her years at the McClure Avenue Church, Virginia served in many roles including Deaconess and Welcoming/Hospitality committee, as well as serving as the church organist for several years. As a member of the ladies auxiliary, Virginia played a key role in the development of the Gift Center as well as many fundraising efforts. In addition, during her boy’s high school years; Virginia was an integral member of the Band Parents supporting both her sons and the Stowe Rocks Marching Band. Virginia was a gifted and extraordinary pianist, sharing her talents with many by both providing lessons for young children, along with serving in the capacity of pianist/organist for several churches. In addition to her music; Virginia enjoyed baking, decorating, and traveling; and was known for her many trips to craft shows and shops; with her favorite: “The Christmas Shop” in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Banks (9-26-13) and her son, Robert L. Banks (4-14-21). She is survived by her son, David Patrick Banks (Lynn Anne) of Richmond, VA.; daughter-in-law, Donna Banks of North East; grandchildren, Robert W. (Hana), Krista (Houston), Anne (Taylor), Allyson (Chris), and Ashley (Phillip); and six great-grandchildren (Louis, Audrey, Adam, Bodie, Jacob and Caleb). Virginia’s family greatly appreciates the care she received from the aides, nurses and med techs while at the Parkside, North East Dementia Unit and the loving, tender care received from all staff of Lakeland Area Hospice.
