Thomas Doyle

NORTH EAST - Thomas “Tommy” Doyle, age 76, of North East, passed away on Thursday September 15, 2022 at his residence. He was born on March 23, 1946 in Erie, Pennsylvania the son of the late Archie and Mary E. Vella Doyle. Tommy graduate St. Gregory High School in 1964 and was formerly employed by General Electric for 30 years until retirement in 1994. He served on the North East Hall of Fame Committee and was a member of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church, Brotherhood of St. Joseph, North East V.F.W. Post 4789, East Erie Moose Lodge, and the Fulton Athletic Club. Tommy was a stellar athlete at St. Greg’s playing in the County All Star Basketball game and the Save An Eye Football game in 1964. He played many years on competitive softball leagues in North East and other places throughout Erie County. He most notably played for the Beardsley Construction Softball team which he considered one of the best times of his life. Tommy was just an exceptional son, brother, uncle, and friend who would give you the shirt off his back or his last dollar. He will be greatly missed. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; nephews, Captain Patrick Doyle, Jr. and Michael Doyle; and a niece, Mary Doyle-King. He is survived by his brothers, Joseph Doyle (Barbara) of North East, Mickey Doyle (Carol) of North East, and Patrick Doyle of North East; sister, Maureen Gratto (Harry II) of North East; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom’s family would like to thank the fantastic care provided by the staff of the Community Nursing Services of North East, All in Your Home Health Care, Millcreek Community Hospital, Millcreek Emergency Care Unit, and the staff at LECOM Senior Center, all of whom helped provide the professional care and compassion to make it possible for Tommy to pass away at home with friends and family by his side. And special thank you to the emergency first responders from North East, Greenfield, and Ripley departments. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Monday from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service on Tues- day at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass from St. Gregory Church, 50 South Pearl Street, North East. Interment will be held at St. Gregory Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Gregory Church, 136 West Main Street or to St. Gregory School, 140 West Main Street, North East, PA 16428.
