Thelma was born December 23rd, 1931 to Harold and Esther (Parkin) Stokes at the Corry Memorial Hospital, living in the Canadohta Lake area. Thelma passed February 4th, 2024 at Parkside North East LECOM, at 2 Gibson St. North East.

Thelma married Donald John Parkin in 1947. They had three children John William, Betty Ann and Donald Ray, residing near Canadohta Lake area, PA.

Thelma married Alvin Luke in 1972, residing in the North East area.  She worked for the Orton family in the grape arbors and the apple orchard. She eventually found her way to become the caretaker of the North East Cemetery. Thelma was fond of showing the unique tombstones, one of which has a secret niche, as she would find quarters and small objects on a weekly basis, but never saw who left them.

Thelma was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Clinton St. North East 16428. She enjoyed helping the ladies baking cherry pies for the Firemen Festival, fun and crafts at the Santa workshop, but her favorite activity was helping to create beautiful quilts.

Thelma was predeceased by her parents, brothers David and Raymond Stokes, ex husband Donald John Parkin, husband Alvin Luke, son John William Parkin and John and Jane's son Jason Parkin, Kristen Parkin daughter of Joshua and Jaime Parkin, and son-in-law Paul Tomer. 

Those surviving are daughter-in law Jane Parkin(John), their children; Daphne, and Heather, their grandchildren Miranda, Sierra, Eve, Mikey, Dylan, Dawson, Koltrin, and Lillian; and their great grandchild McKenzie, residing in York PA. Daughter Betty Tomer(Paul) , their sons Doug, wife Heather and their daughter Hannah; Scott, wife Amanda and their daughter Lillian. Son Donald, wife Deb, their sons Joshua, wife Jaime and their daughter Jayden and Jeremey, residing in the Canadohta Lake PA area, and step children Carla and Eric Luke of North East.

The family wants to thank Parkside North East for their wonderful care, Thelma was one of their original “Golden Girls”, and to VNA Hospice Nurses of Erie, under Melissa and Tracey's loving care. 

Donations can be sent to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Food For Thought, 29776 St. Hwy 77, Guys Mills, PA, 16327, to aid in food insecurities for children.

Family and friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Officiating the service is Rev. William Ringer. Thelma will be laid to rest beside her husband Alvin Luke at the North East Cemetery. She's going home.
