Susan R (Wallace) Travis

Susan R. (Wallace) Travis, age 76, of North East passed away on Oct 13, 2023 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by her family at home.

She was born on April 29, 1947 in Munhall, PA the daughter of the late Alexander and Ruth (Martin) Wallace.

Sue graduated from North East High School in 1965 and obtained her RN degree from Fairview General Hospital.

Sue started her nursing career as a floor nurse and supervisor at Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie.

She was formerly employed as a nurse at the North East Health Care Center for 12 years then by Electric Materials for 12 years, and also served on the North East Community Nurses Board of Directors for several years.

Sue was a member of the Park United Methodist Church where she was the Director of Discipleship for 12 years. She loved ministering to members of the congregation, community and making a joyful noise when singing in the choir. One of her proud accomplishments was the creation of the Book Bags for students at NE School District in cooperation with the Council of Churches.

Many grew to love this particular “Church Lady”. Famous for her friendly smile, greetings, and Sour Cream Coffee Cakes.

She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially the Class of 65 lunch bunch and sharing her love of Jesus to others. Sue will be sadly missed.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Brad and sister-in- law Mary Wallace.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ed Travis whom she married August 31, 1968; sons, Doug Travis (Sue) of Leola, PA and Paul Travis (Anna) of Fort Pierce, FL; grandchildren, Brett, Paige, Levi, Micah, Eve, Hope, and Ezra.

Family and friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on October 19th from 4 to 7 and are invited to attend a Funeral Service on October 20th at 11 at the Park United Methodist Church. Officiating the service is Rev. Eric Leonard. Private interment will be held at North East Cemetery.
