Susan Frances (Young) Butler

Susan Frances (Young) Butler, age 80, of North East, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center due to complications after a fall. She was born at home on November 19, 1942 in Erie, PA, the daughter of the late Francis “Merle” Young and Barbara (Anthony) Young. Susan graduated from Harborcreek High School and married the love of her life, James R. Butler, on August 18, 1962.  She was formerly employed by Harborcreek Township as a receptionist for 20 years. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Susan was an avid reader, gifted proofreader, keen on current events, gardener, enjoyed boating and fishing, wonderful homemaker and cook, upholstery artist, seamstress, chocolate connoisseur, and tennis player. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret "Peggy" (Guyer) Cauldwell; brother, Archie Young; brother-in-law, Max Guyer; and grandson, Jeremy Butler. Susan is survived by her husband of nearly 61 years, James R. Butler; sons, Brian J. Butler (Rita Butler) and Daniel R. Butler (Kathy Clinger-Butler); sister, Doris (Young) Huey; grandchildren, Branden Butler, Kirstie Butler, Damien Carr, Jason Carr, Derek Carr, and Maxx Smith; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, August 27th, at 4:00 p.m. at the Lake View Church of God, 5335 Station Road (Rt 89), North East. Officiating the service is Pastor Michael Grove. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of Erie, 2115 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16508. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East.
