Shawn Giles, age 53, of North East, passed away on Sunday August 20, 2023 serving in the line of duty, supporting his community. He was born on November 20, 1969 in Erie, PA to Edward Giles and the late Barbara (Ecker) Warner. Shawn graduated from North East High School in 1989 and earned a degree in Maintenance Electricity and Construction Technology from Triangle Tech. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany, from 1989-1993. Shawn was employed by Webtec as an assembler for several years. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW Post 4789, The Brotherhood of St. Josephs Club, and East Erie Loyal Order of the Moose 593. He loved to sit and have a beer. His real love was being a member of the Fuller Hose Company #1 in North East, where he served as a firefighter and performed fire police duties. Shawn had a love for the fire department and helping others. He was always there to lend a hand. His kind, soft spoken, selfless character is what made Shawn – Shawn. He truly was a gentle giant. He loved spending time with his family and being Papa to his grandson Lucas. Shawn was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Indians.
He was preceded in death by his mother; brother, Michael Giles; and brother-in-law, Michael Spellman. Shawn is survived by his wife Adele Burnett Giles whom he married on March 3, 2012; step-children, Alyssa DiCarlo (Chris) and Alex Burnett (Ellen); step-mother, Karen Giles; sister, Colleen Spellman (Jon); brother, Patrick Giles; step-siblings, Rick Leamer, Randy Leamer (Sheila), Robbie Tackett (Scott), Rocky Leamer (Denice), and Renee King (Fred); grandson, Lucas DiCarlo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends are invited to Gravel Pit Park, 10300 West Main Street, North East on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m., followed by both Military and Fire Department honors. Memorials in Shawn's name may be made to the Fuller Hose Company, P.O. Box 646, North East, PA 16428. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William D.
