Rodney E Mellquist

Rodney E. Mellquist, 79, of North East, passed away on Wednesday June 4, 2025 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born on May 4, 1946 in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania to the late Merle and Vivian (Fitch) Mellquist.

Rodney graduated from Johnsonburg High School and the GE Apprentice Program.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army.

Rodney was a tool and die machinist at General Electric for 45 years until retirement.

He enjoyed spending time playing guitar with his garage band, volunteering at the VA Hospital, gardening, fishing/charter captain on Lake Erie.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alan Mellquist; sisters, Violet "Smokey" Hammers and Leatrice Benson.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Sara (Virga) Mellquist whom he married April 1, 1972; son, Alan Ayers (June); daughters, Ann Ayers and Jenny Steiner (Marc); sister, Mona Kearney; grandchildren, Aleasha Waite, Faith Waite, Roger Ayers, Parker Snyder, ; great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Elise, Tristen, Jaylynn, Caleb; and Serenity.

Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East.
