Robert S Wilson

April 24, 1946 ~ February 9, 2022 (age 75)

Obituary

Robert S. Wilson, age 75, of North East, passed away on Wednesday February 9, 2022 at home. He was born on April 24, 1946 in Hanover, NH - the son of the late Stanley E. and Jenny C. (Munkittrick) Wilson and grew up in Woodstock, Vermont, graduating from Woodstock Union High School. Bob served proudly as a Sergeant in the 1st Infantry Division, the Big Red One in Vietnam until he was severely wounded in 1969. He was promoted to Sergeant because of his reputation for leadership and courage. He received numerous awards for heroism, including the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. His wounds plagued him for the remainder of his life but he never complained – a pillar of strength and silent hero. Bob spent over forty years employed by the Erie Sports Store as a golf and ski buyer, and he could sell anyone anything (whether needed or not). He enjoyed attending car shows, skiing, going out to eat, his gardens, and a good sale. His competitive nature led to many “friendly” matches on and off the golf course. Impacting so many, Bob will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nancy Herzog, Connie Kenney, Barbara O’Leary, and Carol Jacobsen; his nephew, Michael Wassink. Bob is survived by his wife and best friend, Judy Wassink Wilson (married October 7th, 1972); daughter, Heidi E. Drapeau (Scott) of Lee, NH; sister, Mary Chaves of Falls Church, VA; and grandchildren, Austin, Kyle, Riley, and Payton. Also survived by his cousin and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church, 50 South Pearl Street, North East with Full Military Honors.
