Richard L. Schriefer, age 97, lifetime resident of North East, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at home. He was born on July 22, 1924 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Ralph and Bertha (Weinheimer) Schriefer.
Richard "Dick" graduated from North East High School in 1943 and later attended Gannon University for one and half years. He also took career-related courses at Penn State Behrend, and graduated from the Remington Rand Technical Training School in New York.
In his youth and teen years, he worked as a newspaper carrier, at Weinheimer's Grocery Store, The Hat Rack, and General Electric. After graduation, he worked on the Great Lakes aboard the SS Michael Gallagher, Joe Bull's Service Station, and then joined the United States Navy and served from 1945-47. After marriage, he was employed by Cramer Motors as a parts and customer relations manager, the Electric Materials Company in the production control and cost department, and co-owned and operated Schriefer's Bike Rack with his wife until retirement in 1991.
Dick married the love of his life, Adah Allen on May 8, 1952. They have six children: Rhonda (Mark) Steg, Robin Steff, Richard J. (Norma) Schriefer, Matthew (Loren) Schriefer, Mary (Gary) Robertson, and Margaret (Doug) Giles.
Dick was a member of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church, the Erie Branch of Civil Air Patrol (1940s), NE Cemetery Board of Directors, St. Gregory Cemetery Committee, Parish Council, and host of a Small Group Faith Sharing for couples in interfaith marriages. He was a full-time acolyte for many years at St. Gregory Parish and served on the Commission on NE Boy Scouts, North East Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the American Legion Post 105, North East Fire Department, and the ROMEO Breakfast Club.
Dick is survived by his wife Adah, six children, twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jean, and a son-in-law, Dale Steff.
