Richard A. Pekelnicky, 78, of Harborcreek, passed away on Sunday April 20, 2025 at his residence after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 9, 1947, in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph A. and Katherine A. (Stahowic) Pekelnicky.
Richard graduated from Harborcreek High School, Erie Institute of Technology, and Rochester Institute of Technology earning a degree in electronics repair & technology.
He was employed as a mainframe computer hardware specialist by IBM and was then employed by GTE and its successor companies for several years until retirement. Richard also owned and operated Subway in North East and was a shuttle bus driver for Presque Isle Downs & Casino.
Richard was a member of Crescent Hose Company, Harborcreek Fire Department, and Fairfield Hose Company where he held several positions. He was a Fire Police Officer, Emergency Medical Technician, and former Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop #99.
He enjoyed Flying RC Planes and completing diamond art.
Richard is survived by his wife of 54 years Theresa (Tancar) Pekelnicky whom he married June 26, 1971; sons, Peter Pekelnicky (Denise) of Harborcreek and Mark Pekelnicky (LeeAnn) of Parma Heights, Ohio; grandchildren, Caitlyn and Alexander Cressley; brother-in-law, John Tancar (Dian) of Lewis Run, PA; and nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Sunday, April 27th from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with Full Fireman's Honors will be held at St. Gregory Cemetery.
