Rev. Norman Wheeler Obituary

Rev. Norman Dewey Wheeler, 94, of 21637 Belhaven Way, Estero, Fla., passed away peacefully, on Tuesday morning, November 29, 2022, at The Preserve at Fort Myers, Fla.

He was born on June 5, 1928, in Westfield, N.Y., to Frank and Margaret (Lye) Wheeler.

On August 7, 1948 he married Jean (Pierce) Wheeler of North East, PA.

Norman is survived by his son, Dennis (Debbie) Wheeler of Estero, Fla.; his two daughters, Sharon (Gene) Hamilton of Estero, Fla. and Marie (Dr. Greg) Mielke of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; daughter-in-law Marie J. Wheeler of West Liberty, Ohio; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean P. Wheeler; son, Dale Wheeler; granddaughter, Michele Hamilton; his sister, Florence Thornton of North East, Pa.; brother Carleton Wheeler of Zephyrhills, Fla. and Carleton’s wife, Phyllis Wheeler and daughter Mary K. Wheeler.

After earning his Bachelor and Master of Divinity degrees from Tennessee Temple Schools, Chattanooga, Tenn., Norman was ordained at the First Baptist Church in North East, Pa. He pastored his first Baptist church in 1960 in New Albany, Pa. followed over the years by churches in Rochester, Ohio, Willard, Ohio, Van Wert, Ohio, and lastly Evart, Mich. His greatest legacy is his impact on so many lives by helping others come to know and accept Christ. He was a godly man who served others and God well.

He retired in 1992 to enjoy more time with his hobbies of fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling, and playing games while spending time with his close friends and family.

He will be greatly missed by his family.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, December 9 at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake St., North East, Pa., followed by services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 10th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Norman’s name can be made to Samaritan’s Purse, 801 Bamboo Rd, Boone, NC 28607.
