Rembrandt P Muffie

NORTH EAST - Rembrandt “Rem” P. Muffie, 88, of North East, PA, passed away peacefully at Ball Pavilion on Aug. 30, 2022. He was born in Dubois, PA, to Lola Rebling McCreight and Rembrandt P. McCreight. He was later adopted by James C. Muffie.

Rem graduated from East High in Erie and served in the Air Force for four years, followed by an additional four years in the Air Force Reserves. He then married his lifelong sweetheart Janet Obenreder on Aug. 20, 1955. Rem retired from General Electric. He attended St. Gregory’s Church in North East.

Rem had a lifelong love of painting, he was an exceptional artist, and he won many awards for his work. He enjoyed traveling, especially senior bus trips. Rem spent many volunteer hours restoring trains at the North East Railway Museum. He had a love of Native American history and culture. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an animal lover, and was a lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan.

Rem is survived by his wife Janet, four children, James Muffie of Cambridge Springs, Renee Urquhart of Longwood, FL, Susan (Joseph) Spacht of North East, and Jeffrey Muffie of North East. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jessica (Joseph) Roman of Mechanicsburg, PA, Jamie (Nick) Piazza of North East, Ashley, Clay, and Travis (Rachel) Urquhart of Florida, and Jessica Triepel of Germany; and eight great grandchildren: Olivia, Benjamin, Collin, Campbell, Ava, Frida, Freya, and Aodhan.

Visitation followed by a service will be held at William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East, on Friday, September 2 from 1:00 P.M. until time of a funeral service at 4:00 P.M. Officiating the service will be Deacon Chuck Adamczyk.

Rem suffered from debilitating Parkinson’s Disease and dementia over the last 20 years of his life. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Ball Pavilion for their dedication and for the exceptional care Rem received over the last three years.
