Michael Wyrich Obituary

Michael A. Wyrich, age 74, of North East, passed away on Monday May 20, 2024 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born on October 12, 1949 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late William R. Wyrich, Sr. and Margaret (Hannah) Wyrich. Michael was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Navy as a Seaman. He graduated from Iroquois High School Class of 1969 and was inducted into the Iroquois Football Hall of Fame. Michael was formerly employed by General Electric for 35 years as a Materials Coordinator. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 48 years and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his beloved German Shepherd, Bob.

Michael was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacy R. Breter; brother, William Wyrich, Jr.; step-mother, Nina Wyrich; and brother-in-law, Lance Taggart.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Christine L. (Brainard) Wyrich whom he married August 24, 1969; daughters, Kimberly S. Leicht (Douglas) of Cranesville, PA, Kelly Hamman of North East, and Tamara Walters (Nathan) of North East; sister, Bonnie Taggart of Florida; grandchildren, Zackary and Zane Leicht; Senior Airman Kane Hamman and Owen Hamman; Monroe and Summit Walters; Mette Schultz; great-grandchildren, Ace, Beau, Delainey, Parker, Beckett, Emily, and Sofia; and many nieces and nephews.

To know Mike was to love him. Papa Mike (as he was known around town to many) was the veteran porch patrol of Clinton Street. He was a man of 2nd chances, 3rd and even 4th. He was loyal and a man of his word. Michael depended on a higher power and held his sobriety sacred.

As an Old Timer, he had few words and many sayings. He turned to Jesus, followed his faith and lived his life to always be just a phone call away for anyone in need. Mike raised 4 daughters with the toughest love on the block, resulting in early grey hair and many grandchildren that were the absolute joys of his life. He stood by his losses (as a die hard Miami Dolphins fan) and celebrated the victories of everyone he loved.

Mike's heart was enormous, his tongue the sharpest and with writing this he would say "Keep it simple, and get to the point." So, we will take this great loss and remember his legacy - One Day at a Time.
