Matthew Joseph O'Leary

Matthew Joseph O’Leary passed away unexpectedly Saturday September 27th, 2025 in his home in North East, PA at 36 years old. Matthew was born August 9th, 1989, and he was the beloved son of Joseph and Kim O’Leary.

He is survived by his siblings, Braden (Stephanie) O’Leary, Chad (Alyssa) O’Leary, Kaeli (Steve) O’Leary, his newborn nephew Oliver, a loving crew of aunts and uncles, and many, many cousins. 

Matthew (Matt) is best remembered as a teacher. Sharing knowledge, experience, conversation, and camaraderie with others brought him more joy than anything else. Matt spent time as a snowboard instructor for young children in Vail, Colorado, and his favorite thing in the world was to help the little ones build confidence in themselves. Matt wanted everyone to know how amazing they truly are, and to see the best in themselves as Matt saw them through his eyes.

He was ever the artist, enjoying his time with photography, digital art, and guitar. He was a free spirit and explorer of ideas, never afraid to challenge preconceived notions in search of new horizons, reflecting upon the beauty and mystery of the world around him. 

Most importantly, Matt was unfailingly kindhearted, and would care for even a stranger as if he’d known them forever. He brought happiness and light-heartedness into every room he entered, usually smiling ear to ear and filling the air with his laughter. Family gatherings were brighter with Matt around. He simply wanted everyone to be happy.

A private memorial service will be held to honor Matthew at his childhood home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to help spread the gift teaching and joys of snowboarding to youths at sosoutreach.org
