Mary Hitchcock Obituary

Mary "Maggi" Kelly Hain Hitchcock, age 73, of Erie, formerly of North East, celebrated her last St. Patrick’s Day before passingpeacefully, Friday March 18, 2022. She was born, Mary Margaret Kelly on July 1,1948 in Oil City, PA. and preceded in death by her parents John and Sophia (Wydro) Kelly. From the very beginning, they called her “Maggi.” She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Att. Robert D. Hain, and her son-in-law Michael Reslink. She graduated from Academy High School in 1968 and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Penn State University.  She was a long-time employee of the Office of Children & Youth.  She was a former member of the North East Community Nurses Board -where she founded the hospice program and dedicated her services as a Bereavement Coordinator. Despite being a widow herself, Maggi spent a considerable amount of time helping others through the grieving process. We are confident many reading this were personally helped by Maggi over her years of service given the amount time, love, and care she devoted to this cause. Maggi was a member of St. Gregory ThaumaturgusChurch.  She is survived by her husband, Victor J. Hitchcock of Erie; children, Kelly Austin (David) of Erie, Daniel Hain of Erie, Emily (Jason) Brown of Albion, and Michael (Jocelyn) Hain of Pittsburgh; Mary Reslinkof Glensaw, PA, Julie (Bill) Monas of Erie, and Karen (Brian) Callagy of Boise, Idaho; and 15 wonderful grandchildren.

It’s ironic Maggi passed away shortly after St. Patrick’s Day. She loved to celebratethis day and all things Irish. We believe on her way to heaven she was celebrating, decked out in green singing her favorite Irish songs.

Maggi’s presence will sorely be missed by all of those who were lucky enough to have known her. Her deep love and unwavering commitment to family were her guiding principles passed down to all her children and grandchildren. These principles will continue to live on in future generations.
