Margaret "Mitzi" (McGaughey) Keough

Margaret "Mitzi" McGaughey Keough, 88, passed away on Monday March 2, 2026 at UPMC Hamot.

She was born on January 9,  1938 in North East, PA to the late Daniel and Gladys (Vaughn) McGaughey.

Mitzi graduated from St. Gregory High School in 1955 and Mercyhurst College in 1960 where she obtained her Bachelors of Science in Education.

She was an elementary school teacher for the City of Erie School District for 38 years until retirement.

Mitzi was a member of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church, North East American Legion, and the North East Moose Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald S. Keough; brothers, John and Francis McGaughey, and sisters, Monica Duke, Eileen Farley, Catherine Cooper, Marie Nedza, Carol Reinhold, and Dolores Bensur.

Mitzi is survived by her brother, Robert McGaughey (Ellen) and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Sunday, March 8, from 3:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gregory Church, 50 South Pearl Street, North East. Interment will be held at St. Gregory Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Gregory School, 136 West Main Street, North East, PA 16428. Please send condolences to elkinfh.com.
