Lonzo I Newcome

Lonzo I. Newcome, 80, of North East went “HOME” to be with his Lord and wife of 57 years on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at St. Mary’s East. He was born on March 2, 1941 in Punxsutawney, Pa., the son of the late Lloyd and Belva Newcome. By the time he was 13 he was making his way as a shoe salesman in Punxsutawney and later moved to Erie looking for a better life for his family. There he was formerly employed as a machinist at Erie Tool Works, American Meter, and American Turned Products, he worked there for 20 years and co-workers looked up to him calling him “Dad,” until his retirement in 2003. He also served as Township Supervisor of Greenfield Township for 18 years. He was a BSA scout master at Greenfield Baptist Church for many years. He was a faithful member of the Greenfield Baptist Church and a longtime member and volunteer for the Greenfield Fire Department for 48 years. During his service in the fire department, he enjoyed heading the fund raisers for Greenfield Fire department through gun raffles, turkey shoots, and bingo. He will be greatly missed by all his fellow members of the fire department who also called him “Dad.” Lonzo was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte (Homan) Newcome on December 23, 2016; his son, Dana Newcome; brother, Orvis Newcome. He is survived by his daughter, Cheri Post (Scott) of North East; daughter-in-law Cheryl Newcome; son, Mark Newcome (Susan) of North East, Trent Newcome (Julie) of Harborcreek; grandchildren, Kyle (Ashlee), Kevin (Alannah), Chad, Zachary (Alyssa), Michael, Harleigh, and Trevor; brother, Norman Newcome of Buffalo, N.Y.; and brother-in-law John Homan (Lavonne) of Cochranton, Pa. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East. Friends may call at the Greenfield Baptist Church on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Greenfield Baptist Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Rev. Dan Cass. Memorials may be made to the Greenfield Baptist Church, 9028 Williams Road, North East or Greenfield Fire Department, 10160 Station Road, North East.
