Joseph Chriest Obituary

Joseph L. Chriest, age 88, of Erie and Sunrise, FL, passed away on Wednesday November 20, 2024 at Millcreek Community Hospital.

He was born on April 29, 1936 in North East, Pennsylvania to the late Lee S. and Jennie (Kruszeski) Acquiesta.

Joseph graduated from St. Gregory High School and was a veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps as a corporal in the infantry division.

He was formerly employed by the United States Postal Service for 37 years. During the end of his career he served as postmaster at the Old Griswold Post Office in Erie.

Joseph was a member of Our Lady of Peace in Erie.

He had a passion for golfing and had two lifetime hole-in-one's. 

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Theiss; and brother-in-laws, Robert Theiss and David Milani.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol Marie (Politz) Chriest whom he married August 30, 1958; daughters, Susan L. Chriest of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Tracy P. Chriest of Erie, and Tamara A. Chriest of Erie; son, Lee Samuel Acquiesta and his wife and daughter-in-law Tiffany of Erie; sister, Elaine Milani of Kentucky; and grandchildren, Anthony S. Acquista (Audrie) of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Michael V. Acquista (Cassidy) of Erie.

Friends and family may be greeted on Monday November 25th at 10:30 am at St. Gregory Church, 50 South Pearl Street, North East until time of a Mass of Christian Burial service at 11:00 am followed by a committal service at St. Gregory Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the National Federation for the Blind, 200 East Wells Street at Jernigan Place, Baltimore, Maryland 21230. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William D.
