Obituary

Joseph Peter Allessie, age 79, of North East, passed away on Sunday June 5, 2022 at the Erie Soldiers' and Sailors' Home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 25,1942 the son of the late Peter Samuel and Lucy Grace (Cardinale) Allessie. Joe served in the United States Army at Fort Hood Texas in the 81st Armor Division as a tank operator. He was formerly employed by Ridg-U-Rak, Inc. in North East as an electrician and later retired as a purchasing manager. He was a member of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church where he was baptized, served as an altar server, attended St. Gregory School, and sang in the church choir. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, cruising Lake Erie on his boat the Pegasus V, listening to Neil Diamond, and watching the Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Penguins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Lucy Allessie; sisters, Nicoletta Colt and Josephine Allessie; and a daughter, Laura Ann Drabic. Joe is survived by his sons, Peter (Jen) and Anthony (Amy); grandchildren, Allysa, Abbey, Max, Connor, Logan, Givonnia, Joseph, and Aaron, son-in-law, Marty Drabic, and companion of 32 years, Sue Papesch. A special thank you to the staff at the Erie Soldiers' and Sailors' Home for their dedication to Joe's care and especially to the activity personnel, Angelo, Dave, Katie, Debbie, and others for all the joy and pleasure they gave to Joe that helped keep him happy and content during his stay. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Thursday from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. at St. Gregory Church, 50 South Pearl Street, North East. Private interment will be held at St. Gregory Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Erie American Cancer Society, 2115 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16508 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
