Joseph D. Abata, 83, of North East and Edinboro, passed away on Monday September 8, 2025 at Sarah Reed Senior Living.
He was born on February 7, 1942 in Erie Pennsylvania to the late Samuel and Virginia (Vaccaro) Abata.
Joseph graduated from St. Gregory High School and was was formerly an insurance agent and worked at Knoblock Oldsmobile and later at General Electric for 25 years until retirement.
He was a member of the A.B.A.T.E. and enjoyed smoking cigars, having a glass of bourbon, motorcycling, and working on cars.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marilyn Abata; second wife, Maebeth Abata; brother, Mike Abata; and brother-in-law, Joe Schaff.
He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Konopka (Mark) and Melanie Johnson (Jim) and her family; sister, Marcia Orschek (Tom); sister-in-laws, Sally Abata, Joan Schaff, and Sue Corbran (Paul); grandchildren, Holly Murphy (Matt) and Kelly Konopka (Craig Shaffer); great-grandchildren, Jackson and Gavin Murphy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Per Joe's wishes private funral arrangements have been entrusted to the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East. Private interment St. Gregory Cemetery.
