John Charles Strong

John Charles Strong, age 69, of North East, passed away on Friday September 24, 2021 at Family Hospice.  He was born on October 13, 1951 in Erie, Pennsylvania the son of the late John and Lucille (Kneissler) Strong.  John graduated McDowell Senior High School and was employed by the Millcreek Streets Department for 40 years.  He was a West Ridge Fire Department fireman where he formerly served as assistant fire chief and volunteered at Jr's Last Laugh Comedy Club in Erie.  John was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church and enjoyed weightlifting, owning and operating the SIC Gym (Strong Iron Chamber), riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, attending Arnold Classics in Ohio, and was involved in the North East Football Chain Crew where he was Zane's biggest football fan.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Mary (Knight) Strong (February 7, 2014).  John will be sadly missed by his children, Felicity Knight, David Knight (Cara), Zachary Knight (Britney), Maximillian Knight, Luke Knight, and Zane Strong; siblings, Gary Schersching and Cindy Schersching; and grandchildren, Emily Knight, Ellie Nelson, Naomi Knight, Brianna Knight, Malachi Knight, and Camilia Knight.  Friends and family are invited to call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and are invited to a Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Gregory Church, 50 South Pearl Street, North East.  Interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the West Ridge Fire Department, 3142 West 26th Street, Erie, PA. 16506.
