John E. Schultz, age 56, of North East and Erie, passed away on Friday May 5, 2023 at UPMC Hamot. He was born on May 3,1967 in Erie, Pennsylvania the son of the late Walter E. and Linda (Lowes) Schultz. John was a veteran of the Gulf War and Desert Storm/Desert Shield serving in the United States Navy and the United States Army. He graduated North East High School and attended Penn State Behrend College. John was a member of the North East American Legion Post 105, North East V.F.W. Post 4789, Wesleyville American Legion 571, and the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie. He was formerly employed by the United States Postal Service for over 20 years until retirement. Throughout life, John was an advocate for numerous veterans of all branches and was well respected and loved by all who knew him. He currently served as the 29th District Deputy Commander and the 29th District Sargent of Arms for the North East American Legion Post 105. John was a faithful volunteer at the Erie Veterans Medical Center Behavior Health Council, Desert Storm Memorial, Keystone Paralyzed Veterans, and was instrumental at the 9/11 20th Anniversary 542dQM FOREST PROVIDER. He will be missed by all for his jokes, sound of his laugh, caring personality, and smile. The world lost a truly great man who was very loving, giving, unselfish, and always put others above himself. John loved going to his camp, the outdoors, gardening, and was a dedicated father and grandfather. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and many friends. John is survived by his children, Richard Schultz (Elizabeth) and Vanessa Parent (Nicholas); brother, Thomas Schultz (Gloria); sister, Lorre Beach; grandchildren, Madeline, Brooklynn, Evelyn; special friend, Debbie Bernoski; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends and veterans he advocated for. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street North East on Thursday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Grahamville Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
