John T Bemiss

John T. Bemiss, age 77, Angola, NY passed away on Monday July 3, 2023 at Dunkirk Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 11, 1945 in Erie, PA the son of the late Lee Edward and Lucille (Mackintosh) Bemiss. John graduated North East High School and Edinboro University where he earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree in Education. He formerly taught history and computer science at Friendly High School in Fort Washington, MD. and served as a chaperone for senior high school students visiting foreign countries. Throughout his time at North East High School, John was on the NE Track and Field Team. In 1962 the team was the first team in Erie County or District 10 to win a class B PIAA state championship in history. The team was inducted into the North East Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. John enjoyed golfing, reading, and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glenn Bemiss; sister, Shirley Thompson and husband Allen; and a sister-in-law, Rose Bemiss. John is survived by his siblings, Gary Bemiss and Gyle Duffy (Barry) of Pensicola, FL. Private interment will be held at Wattsburg Cemetery.
