Jobeth "Joby" LaFuria Obituary

Jobeth "Joby" Rumberger LaFuria, age 73, of North East, passed away on Monday March 24, 2025 at UPMC Hamot.

She was born on September 12, 1951 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Carl and Gladys (Prosser) Rumberger.

Joby graduated from North East High School in 1969 and retired from PNC Bank in North East after 35 years in banking.

Joby was a board member of the North East Scholarship Fund, McCord Library, and actively supported the North East High School Marching Band and Harborcreek Cheerleading.

She was a member of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church where she sang in the choir, was active in the St. Gregory Wonder Workers and Cursillo. Her favorite quote was from Madeleine L’Engle. “We do not draw people to Christ by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.”

She lived every day as a true testament to her faith.

She enjoyed playing guitar, music, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She loved passionately and embraced everyone she met with kindness. She brought happiness, light and love to all.

She was everything to her family and will be sadly missed for her smile, warm heart and unconditional love.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Georgia Rumberger; brothers, Sam and John Rumberger; brother-in-law, Sam LaFuria (Fran); sister-in-laws, Carmella Manges (Carl); Kathy Scepura, and Tina LaFuria.

Joby is survived by her husband of 54 years, Russell LaFuria, Jr., whom she married September 18, 1971; children, Chris Scarnati (Rajan Nischal), Cari Rowe (Michael), and Russell “Joe” LaFuria (Carrie); grandchildren, Sarah Scarnati (Michael Kaplan), Angelina Scarnati, Sophia and Sharon Rowe, Eva and Giada LaFuria, and Sophia Nischal; great-grandson, Calvin Scarnati; sisters, Carol Deatherage (Jack) and Judy Walburn (Terry); in-laws, Stanley LaFuria (Lois), Tony LaFuria (Sue O’Neal) and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
