Joan Marie (Saluga) Vereb

NORTH EAST - Joan Marie (Saluga) Vereb, age 74, of North East, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 9, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on June 16, 1948 in New York City to the late Stephen and Mary (Kelly) Saluga. Joan graduated from Immaculate Heart High School and attended Villa Maria College. She was employed by St. Gregory School in the Computer Lab for over 20 years. Joan was a member of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church and volunteered at the St. Benedict Education Center and the Emmaus Soup Kitchen. She loved her students, teaching water aerobics, teaching swimming lessons, traveling, and spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Michael J. and Josephine J. Vereb; and brother-in-law, Robert Vereb. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Michael P. Vereb whom she married June 15, 1968; children, Michael S.Vereb(Marie),Brian Vereb(Kathleen), Jennifer Girts, and Christopher Vereb; brother, Stephen Saluga (Karen); sister-in-laws, Janice Rodems (Dave) and Mary Hardy (John Lampros); grandchildren, Julianna, Joelle, Christian, Jacob, Michael John, Gracie, Grant, Stephen, Emilee, Caleb, Lucas, Corinne, and Cassidy. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Friday from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. at St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church, 50 South Pearl Street, North East. The rosary will be recited by the St. Gregory Knights of Columbus on Friday at 2:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Private interment will be held at St. Gregory Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Gregory School, 140 West Main Street, North East, PA 16428.
