Jack J. DiOrazio, age 86, of North East, passed away on Wednesday October 25, 2023 at his residence.
He was born on June 17th 1937 in Erie, PA, the son of the late Jack and Josephine K. (DiSalvo) DiOrazio.
Jack graduated St. Gregory High School in 1955 and was formerly employed by Electric Materials in North East for 39 years until retirement. During his years at Electric Materials, he was the company's fire chief for 15 years.
He was an active member of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church where he served as a Parish Council Member, Church Usher, Home School President, and coached the St. Gregory Grade School Football Team for 19 years. Jack was also instrumental in starting the S.O.S. program for the boys and girls sports teams, restarted the Cub & Boy Scouts Troop Pack 89, and was a school crossing guard.
In service to the community he loved, Jack joined the Fuller Hose Company in 1966, serving as an active member for 19 years. While active, he attended schooling at the Edinboro Fire School and the State Fire Academy in Lewistown, PA. An advocate of fire and life safety, Jack headed committees to present fire safety information to many schools, homes and factories, and was active in planning fire and evacuation drills for tornado shelters and homes in the community. After active service, Jack remained an honorary member for the remainder of his life. He was the 2012 Cherry Festival Parade Grand Marshal, and was awarded in 2016 for his 50th year of Cherry Festival service.
Jack organized the first Trick or Treat Party at the Fuller Hose Company, as well as founding the Black Knights Auto Group, and the ROMEO Group. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the Casino, and was an avid Notre Dame Football fan.
Jack will be sadly missed by his conversations, gentle smile, quick wit, jokes, and Tootsie Rolls.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Betty (Beardsley) DiOrazio (October 2, 1993); brother, Michael DiOrazio; sister, Angeline (Sis) Lorah; niece, Carol Lorah Shampoe; and nephews, Jack and Ronnie DiOrazio.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Diana Hanes of North East; Jack J. DiOrazio, Jr. of North East; grandchildren, Julia D. Aguilar, Robert J. Hanes, Jr., Ryan J. Hanes, Jack J. DiOrazio III, Jason A. DiOrazio (Kendal), and Cassandra L. DiOrazio. Great-grandchildren, Eduardo Aguilar, Evan Nicholas Aguilar, Sophia Hanes, Bentley DiOrazio, Emmett DiOrazio, Jensen Hanes, twins Paisley and Praylen Hanes and Adalyn DiOrazio, also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street North East on Sunday October 29th from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church, 48 South Pearl Street, North East. Interment will be held at St. Gregory Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the North East Fire Department, P.O.
