Harry Barton Obituary

Harry L. Barton, age 97, of North East, passed away on Sunday February 19, 2023 at Erie Veterans Hospital. He was born on June 8, 1925 in Sherman, NY the son of the late Byron and Genevieve (Stuts) Barton. Harry graduated North East High School in 1943 and a year later enlisted into the military. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Marine Corps as a corporal infantryman and military police officer until his honorable discharge in 1952. Harry was formerly employed by railroad companies Conrail Railroad, New York Central, and Penn Central as a signalman for 33 years. He was a lifetime member of the North East V.F.W. Post 4789 (Past Commander), Wesleyville American Legion Post 571, Ripley Rod & Gun Club, Brotherhood of St. Joseph, East Erie Moose Lodge, and the NRA. Harry enjoyed crossword puzzles, hunting, Nascar, Oakland Raiders, wine, and spending time with his beagle dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma Mae (Moyer) Barton; second wife, Nancy (Forbes) Barton; daughter, Marilyn Lantzy; step-son, John J. Bucheral; sister, Molly Hitcome; and son-in-laws, Vernon Marsh, Ron Lane, and Regis Lantzy. Harry is survived by his daughters, Darlene Marsh of North East, Bonnie Bucheral of North East, Linda Lane of North East, and Diane Ferrell of Corry; sons, Eric Barton (Carmen) of North East and Kenny Bucheral of North East; also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street North East on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Full Military Honors. Private interment will be held at North East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ripley Rod & Gun Club, P.O. Box 423, 9820 Rod and Gun Rd, Ripley, NY 14775.
