Obituary

Guy Bruce Mays, age 89, of North East, passed away on Saturday September 9, 2023 at Fairview Manor. He was born on October 29, 1933 in Warren, PA the son of the late Alonzo G. Mays and Clara (Gealy) Mays Jensen. Guy grew up in Youngsville, PA where he graduated High School in 1951. He was formerly employed by GTE Sylvania for 23 years and VTF Phone in Florida for 8 years. After returning to North East in 1983, he worked at St. Gregory School for 4 years and was the Building Superintendent at Mid City Towers for 11 years until retirement. Guy was the epitome of optimism, his friends and family learned from his words, actions, and silence. He was the kindest man you'll ever meet and was always helping everyone in need. Guy formerly served as a Youngsville Volunteer Fireman and enjoyed many hobbies, hunting and fishing. He loved music and throughout his life was well known for his one of a kind whistling. You could always know Guy's presence by hearing his whistling. His love of music inspired him to sing with the Barbershoppers for many years. He loved golfing, bowling, sports especially tennis, and spending time with his family and friends. Guy was loved by all and will sadly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Shirley (Reynolds) Mays whom he married July 16, 1955; son, Bruce Guy "Rooster" Mays; daughters, Pamela Sue Mays and Kimberlee Mays; sister, Donna Harmon; and his dog, Toby. Guy is survived by his daughters, Laurie Kohler (Chris) of Warren and Nancy Mulson (Chuck) of North East; sister, Gloria Mitchell of Titusville; grandchildren, Charlie, Melissa, Jason, Matt, Jesse, Sabra, Victoria, Alyssa, Julie, and Jennifer; many great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and his friends at Benetwood. Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East.
