Esther Mae (Yost) Northrup, 92, of North East, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 19, 1933, in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Walter A. and Marietta Mae (Bennett) Yost.
Esther graduated from North East High School in 1952. Esther, along with her husband, Melvin, owned and operated the multi- generational, family owned Northrup Slaughter House in North East for many years until retirement. She also worked at the Stateline tourist information Center, a family medical practice, and was an office assistant and custodian at the First Baptist Church.
She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of North East where she sang in the church choir for over 50 years. She was involved with Awana’s, Operation Christmas Child, and FBC woman’s groups along with various Bible studies.
Esther was involved with the North East Historical Society and enjoyed knitting, baking, painting, and calligraphy art. She took in great joy watching Lake Erie sunsets, especially at Freeport Beach. She enjoyed going on bus trips and going out to eat with her family and friends. She was a social butterfly, loving to be around family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Northrup; sisters, Mary Hiles and Ruth Dorrance; and brothers, Donald Yost and Robert Yost.
Esther will be sadly missed by her sons, Mark C. Northrup (Barbie) of Lake Worth Beach, FL and Daniel C. Northrup (Kristen) of Dripping Springs, TX; Daughters, Denise Morey (Jeff) of Palmetto, FL and Cheryl Goss (Ted) of North East; grandchildren, Rebecca, Jessica, Allison, Andrew, Aaron, McKenzie, Grayson, Danielle, Hunter, and Harrison; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Monday, October 6th from 6-8 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of North East. Private interment will be held at North East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of North East, 43 South Lake Street, North East, PA 16428 or the Community Nursing Service of North East, 7 Park Street, North East, PA 16428.
