Dorothy M Girts

Dorothy May Girts, 78, of North East, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021. She was born on May 17, 1943, in Erie, Pa., to the late John L. and Edith V. Randolph Montgomery. 

Dorothy graduated from North East High School in 1961 and co-owned Girts Sand and Gravel in North East. She was an active member of the Greenfield Baptist Church in North East and a member of American Baptist Women. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of North East where she served as church deaconess, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of Orange Point. She was a previous member of the North East Lakeshore Historical Railway Society, and served on the board of directors for Humbleheart Ministries. 

Dorothy loved traveling, reading books, and playing cards with her friends. She also loved people and was a mom to many individuals and enjoyed spending time with her family. 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, David whom she married on May 1, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in North East. 

She is survived by her children, David Girts, James Girts (Lorie Feudner), Martha Brown (Scott) and Timothy Girts (Sarah) all of North East; sister, Norma Jean Hoppe; grandchildren, Lynsay Lay (Jason), Travis Girts (Beth), Morgan Tinko (Brendon), Amber Girts, Julianna Girts, Christian Girts, Gracie Girts, Grant Girts, Abigail Girts and Ben Feudner; great-grandchildren, Nellie, Angelece, and Alexa; also several cousins nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. 

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Friday, Dec. 10, from 3 until 7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Greenfield Baptist Church, 9028 Williams Road, North East.  

Officiating the service is Rev. Dan Cass. Interment will be held at Grahamville Cemetery.
