Doris Leamer Obituary

Doris Pauline (Polly) Fitzgerald Leamer, age 80, from South Ripley, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at UPMC Hamot.  The daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Silvis Fitzgerald, she was born on September 8, 1942, in Brookville, PA. She was raised by her grandparents Hatti Joy and Wellington Fitzgerald and then resided in the Ripley area for the entire 62 years of marriage to her husband Robert W. Leamer.

She was a loving wife and mother who was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Along with her husband, she loved to cruise with her family and work with their son and daughter-in-law serving fried chicken to paintball players and spectators. She loved playing bingo and cards with her children and grandchildren. She loved flowers and to do ceramics, was an avid gardener and very talented artist. She loved to cook and is remembered for baking pies for the annual area fire department’s chicken dinners. She is also remembered as a cub scout leader, foster parent, and spectator of various activities of children and grandchildren. 

She worked with her husband, Robert, as office manager at Equipment Service.  

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, grandparents, and a brother, Ronald Fitzgerald.

Doris is survived by her husband, Robert W. Leamer; daughter, Roxanne Buterakos (Jim) of Michigan; sons, David Leamer (Kathryn) of Indiana; Rex Leamer (Margo) of South Ripley; William Leamer of South Ripley;  and a sister, Janet Fitzgerald Lenhardt of Saegertown.

She loved all 12 grandchildren, Randi Klosterman (Aaron) of Michigan; Jaime Davidson of Michigan; William Leamer of Jamestown; David Root of South Ripley; Christine Leamer of NorthEast; Brittany Armstrong (Seth) of Indiana; Shane Leamer (Katlin) of Indiana; Tiffany Leamer of Lawrence Park; Alex Buterakos of Michigan; Zachary Leamer of Lawrence Park; Andreanna Buterakos of Michigan; Joseph Leamer of North East; and her 10 great-grandchildren, Luke Rose, Victoria Davidson, Delaney Klosterman, Avery Armstrong, Jack Klosterman, Jacob Root, Scottie Armstrong, Holden Armstrong, Ryli Wax, and Camee Buterakos.

The family thanks all the nurses and doctors at UPMC Hamot and the EMS team, especially Harlan Briggs, David Fratz, Jim Spacth, Jamie Justham, and Terry Henry from South Ripley for the care they provided.

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Friday, March 3 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Saturday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be held at the East Ripley Cemetery.
