David John Girts, age 57, of North East, peacefully passed away on Friday October 11, 2024 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on November 29, 1966 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late David M. and Dorothy M. (Montgomery) Girts.
David graduated from North East High School in 1985 and Clarion University in 1990 earning a degree in Management. During his high school years, David excelled in track and cross country running and in 2022 was inducted into the North East Hall of Fame.
David had a successful career as a claims adjuster at Hancock Claims, where he worked for several years. He also worked at Girts Sand and Gravel, various construction sites, and as a truck owner/operator.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of North East. He loved attending Sunday Worship, church functions, and formerly served as the AWANA Commander.
David had a deep passion for riding motorcycles, jet skis, and off-road vehicles. He loved traveling and cherished watching Buffalo Bills games with his family and friends.
He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be sadly missed.
David is survived by his children Lynsay Girts, Travis Girts, Morgan Girts (Blake), and Amber Girts; sister, Martha Brown (Scott); brothers, James "Wayne” Girts (Lorie) and Timothy Girts; grandchildren, Nellie May, Jack and Scarlette; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Tuesday, October 15th from 3:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. and all are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, October 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Orchard Beach Assembly, 2025 Orchard Beach Road, North East. Officiating the service is Pastor Troy Keith, a dear friend of David’s. Memorials may be made in David's name to Camp Judson, 398 Holliday Road, North Springfield, PA 16430
