Darlene Pukylo Obituary

Darlene Ann Pukylo (Gorniak) age 68 passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 5th, 2022 following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease for nearly a decade.

She was born on November 11th, 1953 in Erie, PA and was one of eleven siblings to the late Michael E. and Dorthea (Weaver) Gorniak.

Darlene graduated from North East High School. She was employed at Welch’s for 40+ years as a safety facilitator and held various positions throughout the years while raising her three children before retiring in 2017.

Darlene enjoyed going to yard/estate sales, painting, attending to her garden, sharing a sweet treat with a loved one and happily talking to neighbors on her daily walk to and from work each day.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Newman and her brother, Dennis Gorniak.

She is survived by her spouse Jaime Pukylo; three daughters: Tina Guzman, Melissa Newman and LeeAnne Pukylo and rescue cat, Dunkin. Brothers: Michael F., Donald, Eugene, and Randy Gorniak; Sisters: Deborah Hubbard, Jean Castillo, Diane Hummel, Betty J Truby, and Rita Skowron; Grandchildren: Alyssa, Cody, Jenna, Amir, Selena, Maria, Adam; 7 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per her wishes, there will be no viewing. A small memorial service will be held with family at their discretion. Arrangements have been entrusted to William D. Elkin Funeral Home & Cremation Services of North East, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkinson Partners of Northwest PA - P.O. Box 10547. Erie, PA 16514.

We are sincerely grateful to the many friends, personal caregivers (LuAnn, Crystal and Terri), UPMC medical team and NE Community Nurses who have given us support and comfort during her progression of Parkinson’s disease.

We also want to thank missionary camp crew 22 & 23 for their hard work and dedication of building a wheelchair ramp. The ramp gave Darlene independence through mobility and the ability to fully enjoy many more sunny days than we could have hoped for.
