Charles L. Valone of North East, PA died peacefully at age 96 1/2, rejoining his wife Alice and surrounded by his family on August 10, 2025 at his residence in North East. He was born January 19, 1929 to the late Salvatore (Sam) and Josephine (Jenco) Valone. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Alice, his parents, sister Patricia (Valone) Licata, beloved daughter Susan Valone, and grandson Jason Valone. He is survived by his brother Robert Valone (Sally), sons Charles Valone, Jr (Jeannie), Steven Valone, and Samuel Valone (Maureen), and daughters Charlotte Gilbert (Michael) and Joanne Valone, grandchildren Megan, Ali, Mimi, Kayda, Tony, Nick, Sal, Mario, Amanda, Erica, Ashley, Morgan, Shelby, Hudson and Walker, twelve great grandchildren, as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
Charles graduated from North East High School, class of 1947. After high school, he had a job at General Electric in Lawrence Park for a brief time, but started working on his family’s farm. In time Charles and his dad became partners and then he transitioned to being independent, but continued working closely with Sam. He married his high-school sweetheart Alice Adams on September 2, 1950. Together, they raised six children on their own fruit farms in North East. Charles was a progressive thinking farmer and was a leader in advanced grape farming methods like double curtain and the grape harvester machines. He enjoyed bowling, golf, tennis, snowmobiling, being at the hunting cabin to cook and play cards, bridge parties, breakfast at O’Neals and most recently at Perkins. Charles lived life with considerable gusto. Some things were especially important. Sunday family dinners were near the top. As a founding member he cherished his Lakeview Country Club membership and did a stint as Township supervisor. He and Alice were Welch co-op members for fifty years and were instrumental in starting the North East marina and Vineyard Oil and Gas. We could go on.
On top of all that Charles and Alice helped many, many people in the area with their lives. So many have said to one or the other of us, “Oh your dad was so good to me, “Your dad gave me a chance,” and “Your folks helped with this.” It has been wonderful to hear.
Rest In Peace, Charles!
