Betty Jane (Stanopewicz) Chwatek

Betty Jane (Stanopewicz) Chwatek, age 79, of North East, PA, passed away on Saturday February 15, 2025 at UPMC Hamot surrounded by her family.

She was born on October 27, 1945 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Edward and Regina (Bojarski) Stanopewicz.

Betty graduated from St. Benedict Academy in 1963 and was formerly employed at General Electric, The Jacob Haller Co., and John August Co.

She attended St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, playing cards, desserts, and collecting Santa Clauses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Theresa Steglik and Barbara Duska.

Betty is survived by her husband of 56 years Stanley A. Chwatek whom she married on April 20, 1968 at St. Boniface Catholic Church; daughter, Deborah Sceiford (Joseph) of North East; sons, Stanley Chwatek (Shelley) of North East, and Jason Chwatek (Wendy) of Harborcreek; sister, Christine DeSantis (Anthony) of Fairview; grandchildren, Stanley (Karley), Chelsey, Joseph, Alexandra, Gracie, Dylan, Chloey, and Tucker; expected great-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street North East on Friday February 21st from 3:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from St. Gregory Church, 50 South Pearl Street, North East.
