Anthony "Tony" Mazza

Anthony “Tony” Mazza made his final appearance at the plate on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Hamot Hospital in Erie, PA. Tony was born March, 22, 1940, in Migliuso, Italy, to his parents Angelo and Assunta (Scalise) Mazza. 

In 1949, Tony moved to America with his family, where they settled in Bellmore, New York. In 1958, the family moved to a farm in North East, PA, and in 1959, Tony finished his schooling at Harbor Creek High School. In 1960, Tony joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Benning, GA. After his time in the military, he returned to North East and worked at Welch’s for 45 years.

Tony met the love of his life, Linda Greenman, in 1966 at Welch’s, and they were married on August 9, 1969, in North East. During their 54 years of marriage, they had three children: Ralph, Jeff, and Amy. They enjoyed traveling the country with friends and spent many hours around the table with family. They are truly an example of what it means to love your partner unconditionally.

Tony loved sports, but nothing compared to his New York Yankees, a team he fell in love with when he moved to America. His Yankees hat was a conversation starter everywhere he went. Tony expressed his love for baseball by coaching Little League in North East and as an active participant on the Park United Methodist Church softball team. Tony was a member of Park United Methodist Church where he built many friendships over the years.

Tony is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Geno, and sister-in-law Kathy Mazza. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Greenman) Mazza, and three children: Ralph Mazza (Ruth Shaffer) of Peoria, IL; Jeff Mazza (Kristy) of Erie; and Amy Bilotta (Daniel) of Fort Mill, SC. He is also survived by two siblings: Rachel Borzilleri and Rick Mazza (Kim), along with many nieces and nephews, beloved in-laws, and two grandchildren, Madison and Tyler Bilotta. 

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Hamot, particularly Stephanie, who showed great kindness while caring for Tony and our family during this difficult time.

Family and friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the Park United Methodist Church, 30 North Lake Street, North East from 9:00 a.m. until time of a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be made to Chosen or Park United Methodist Church.
