James “Jim” H. Garfield, 80 of Ripley, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in Venice, Florida. He was born on October 29, 1940 in Erie, Pa., the son of the late Fred C. and Dorothy Mae (Chesley) Garfield. James graduated from North East High School in 1958 and was later employed as a pharmaceutical salesperson until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Park United Methodist Church and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, farming, archery, and nature. James was preceded in death by his son, Dale Lawrence Garfield. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marilyn Hopkins Garfield; son, Doug Garfield (Michele) of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Robert Garfield (Patricia) of North East; sister, Judy Nelson of North East; grandson, James Christopher Garfield of San Diego, Calif.; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East, on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Rev. Eric Leonard. Private interment will be held at North East Cemetery.
