Sad news about the passing of my friend, colleague & mutual sports enthusiast Jim Lanahan. Prayers & sympathies to his wife Jule & family. Jim will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was truly an outstanding and superb person who devoted his time and energy to helping others. During his various roles in higher education administration, he helped thousands and thousands students of all ages. I can personally attest to hundreds of students who owed and attributed their academic success and graduation to Jim because of his astute and advice, guidance and care that he always so willingly to passed along to them. Jim always had a story or personal experience to convey to others and the fact that he was a life time friend of Joe Biden always led to some very interesting sharing of memories or nostalgic examples of his association with such a famous person. RIP Jim Lanahan. PS Glad that his beloved Philadelphia Eagles finally won a Super Bowl, too!

I remember Mr. Lanahan when I was a student at mercyhurst north East and when I was an instructor there as well. Great guy always had a smile on his face. I remember the first time he saw both my twin and I together he said : "Oh no there's two of you!" Then he just laughed. I'll always remember that. Such a great guy and will be greatly missed. Rest easy.

What can I say about my dear friend Jim Lanahan? Mercyhurst North East may have been Dr. Garvey's vision, but Jim Lanahan took that vision and gave it legs. Jim Lanahan was the one who made it work. He never lost sight of all that an opportunity college should and could be. His legacy lives in the THOUSANDS of students he advised, counseled, and cajoled into earning their degrees. Jim Lanahan was the soul of Mercyhurst North East, and I am proud to have worked with him there for a time. Both my husband Glen and I held Jim in the highest regard.

Our deepest sympathies to you, Julie and family. Be comforted in knowing that so many people loved your Jim and will cherish his memory.

To Julie and all the Lanahan's- On behalf of the entire Pierce Family, I am sending Love and Best Wishes to your Family along with fond, respectful memories of Jim. Although your time in Stratford was relatively brief, having you and Jim's as neighbors were always special. I have appreciated watching the Lanahan Family grow with each year's holiday cards!
