Allan C. Shafer, age 83, of North East passed away peacefully into the presence of his Savior on September 3, 2018 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born on October 14, 1934 in Salem, PA to the late Paul and Rosie Brocious Shafer.

Allan served for 6 years as a Sergeant in the Army Reserves during peacetime.

He was employed at GE for 27 years in the locomotive assembly department until retirement on January 1, 1995. Prior to moving to Erie, Allan had worked as a truck driver and in the farming industry.

Allan was a current member of the North East Christian & Missionary Alliance Church where he served as a trustee for many years.  He also was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He enjoyed woodcrafting, working outside and took great pride in tending to his blueberries and raspberries; often going to great lengths to nourish and protect his crop.

In addition to his parents, Allan was preceded in death by his wife, Verla E. Doverspike Shafer (March 8, 2009); sisters, Evelyn Barnett, Helen Powell, Loretta Fitzsimmons; brother, Don Shafer ; great- grandson, Emeht Wood.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Shafer (Michelle) of Wilmore, KY and Roger Shafer (Tammy) of North East; sisters, Margie Sherry (Bob) of Pompano Beach, FL; Shirley Nolf (Marl) of Mayport, PA; grandchildren, Christine Wood (Andrew), Kelsey Learn (Leroy Jr.), Kylie Bolinger (Cody), Logan, Kierstin, Zack and Morgan Shafer; great-grandchildren, Lukas, Kaleb, and Kaelyn Learn.

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S, Lake St., North East on Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 and are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.  Officiating Rev. Jack Hannah.  Private interment Erie County Memorial Gardens.  Memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, PO Box 98018, Washington, DC 20090-8018.  Please send condolences to www.elkinfh.com
