Maryle Mills King, 89, closed her eyes in sleep and was ushered into the waiting arms of her Savior on Thursday, August 23, 2018. She was born on Nov. 18, 1928 in Knoxville, Ohio to Robert S. and Mary Ellis Mills. Having lost her Mother as a young child, she came to live with her Aunt and Uncle, Kathryn and Victor Todd, at the age of 14. They lovingly brought Maryle into their home, and from that moment on they considered her to be the daughter that completed their family which included their three younger sons, Chad, Frank, and Keith.

Maryle married her husband, the late Robert C. King, on November 28, 1946. Together they had four girls, Carol (Ted) Thompson of Harborcreek, Sue (Tom) Meehl of North East, Jane (Paul, Sr.) Vogel of Harborcreek, and Peggy (Jim) Black of Erie. She leaves a legacy of love to her ten grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Also surviving Maryle are her two brothers in love, Frank (Marcia) Todd of Lake Barrington, IL, and Keith Todd of Terra Alta, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Katie Jane, her brother Robert Ellis Mills, as well as Victor and Kathryn Todd and their son, Chad. Also preceding her in death were her son-in-law, Arthur Shaffer, and a great-granddaughter, Kylie Elizabeth Haggerty.

Maryle was an active member of Greenfield Baptist Church for 75 years. Nothing gave her greater joy than caring for her girls while instilling in them an ever-deepening relationship with her Lord and Savior. Though she worked at Welch Foods for 33 years, she always had time to serve her church family. She was Church Clerk for over 35 years, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and worked with the youth. Maryle loved to crochet and won several Blue Ribbons over the years. Obviously her role as a ‘spinner of yarn’ fit perfectly as she participated in the church’s “Journey to Bethlehem” each Christmas. Hospitality was her special God-given gift, and she often hosted prospective ministers and special guests in her home.

We would like to sincerely thank the dedicated family of nurses and staff at Brevillier Village for their compassionate kindness and support. We were deeply blessed by each one that lovingly cared for our Mother. We would also like to acknowledge the Hospice Care team of the Community Nursing Services of North East for their thoughtfulness and words of comfort while guiding us through this journey.

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Sunday, August 26th from 3-7 p.m. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Greenfield Baptist Church, 9028 Williams Road, North East, PA at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 27th, with Pastor Dan Cass officiating. We were roommates at Brevilier Village- Ball and were a good match! I am happy that she was able to move to the apartment at Barnabas to live in.

My Dad, Harley Hartley, asked me to write and say how sorry he is to hear of the passing of Maryle. Dad remembers many great chats with her. Our family is keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.
