William "Bill" J. McClelland, age 81, of Spring Hill, Florida and formerly of North East died on Tuesday May 29, 2018 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born in Erie, PA on July 13, 1936 to the late George B. McClelland and Loretta Borges McClelland.

William served in the United States Air Force from July 1955 until July 1959.

He graduated from Erie Tech School class of 1955 and then attended school to become a mechanic.

William was a professional truck and bus driver with over 3 million accident free miles.

He was an honorary member of the Crescent Hose Company and was an active fire fighter and EMT for many years before moving to Florida in 1986, volunteered at Bayonet Point MC in Hudson, FL., member of the American Legion Post 105, Erie Elks, F.O.E., was a life member and honor guard of the VFW Post 8681 in Shady Hills, Florida, and volunteered with the golden retriever rescue of Mid, Florida.

William also enjoyed spending his summers at Family Affair campground in North East.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sylvia Mattis McClelland, whom he married March 3, 1974; sons, William McClelland II of Greenville, Robert Brayman (Jennifer) of East Aurora, NY, James McClelland (Kathy) of Erie; daughter, Litza Brayman Brown (Dan) of TX; sister, Marlene Bannon of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake St., North East on Friday 2-4 and 6-8 and are invited to attend a funeral service at 2:00 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.  Officiating Father Thomas Brooks.  Full military honors to follow the funeral service.  Private interment Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Crescent Hose Company, PO Box 89, North East, PA 16428.  Please send condolences to www.elkinfh.com.

I am Thinking of the family and wishing the family moments of peace and comfort as you remember him, I want to extend my condolences to the family of uncle Bill. I have such great memories growing up and hanging out with uncle Bill and the whole family, And what a wonderful man he was. I am Very sad that I wasn’t able to attend the funeral but my thoughts and prayers are with the family right now as they remember the life of uncle Bill. I am truly going to miss him, he was taken away too soon! Hugs and prayers to the whole family. Love you all!
