Albin Sveda, age 79, of North East, died on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at UPMC Hamot.  He was born on July 21, 1937 in Bridgeville, PA, the son of the late Michael and Mary Helen (Dadum) Sveda.  Albin was raised in Bridgeville, 10 miles south of Pittsburgh, and at the age of 15 joined the United States Navy, where he served for five years.  He was aboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph
when it was stationed in the Middle East during the Suez Canal crisis in the 1950's.  After leaving the service, he went to work as a substitute postal worker in Pittsburgh.  Later, Albin secured a full-time position as officer in charge in Grand Valley; postmaster at East Springfield; and window clerk and acting supervisor at the North East Post Office for several years.  Albin's career with the United States Postal Service lasted for 42 years and he retired in 1997.  He was a member of the
National Association of Letter Carriers and the North East Christian Missionary Alliance Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosella Anderson and Diana Shirley Greenwald.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy E. (Muhl) Sveda, whom he married June 25, 1960; son, Michael A. Sveda (Lori) of Poconos, PA; daughter, Diane M. Durlin of Erie; brothers, Elmer J. Sveda of Arkadelphia, AR and Edward G. Sveda (Sue)  of North East; also 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake St., North East on Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 and are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday at 11:00 am at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in North East.  Officiating the service is Rev. Marvin Hutchison.  Memorials may be made to the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 81 E.
