Wilbert “Dude” Dudenhoeffer, age 97, of North East, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Parkside North East. He was born on December 18, 1923 in Hammett, Greene Township to the late George M. and Edith R. (Stadler) Dudenhoeffer. Dude was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army 47 Tank Division. He was a graduate of Erie Technical High School and was formerly employed at Penn Beer Company and, then at General Electric as a machinist where he retired in 1984. Dude was a an active member of the North East V.F.W. Post 4789 where he served as District Commander. He was also a member of the Wesleyville American Legion Post 571, Brotherhood of St. Joseph, St. Boniface Ushers Club, USA Veterans, and the V.F.W. Honor Guard where he performed over 400 funerals throughout his lifetime. He was an honorary Canadian Corps member. Dude was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann (Hadzega) Dudenhoeffer; sons, Ronald J. Dudenhoeffer and Gary J. Dudenhoeffer; a sister, Elaine Beveridge; a nephew, Bill Beveridge; and an infant granddaughter, Christina. He is survived by his grandsons, Raymond Dudenhoeffer of Buffalo, N.Y. and Steven Dudenhoeffer of North East; a daughter-in-law, Valerie Thoreson (Gordie Hires) of Ripley; nieces, Karen Rebar of Oxford, Pa. and Kathy Mizak of Russell, Pa.; and a nephew, David Beveridge of Anchorage, Alaska. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East, on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Grahamville Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
