Music by The Piano Brothers

Sibyl Lorene Millspaw Hinman, 95 of North East, joined her Heavenly Father on September 18, 2017, at Manchester Commons in Erie, PA.  The daughter of Carl and Opal Millspaw, Sibyl was born March 13, 1922, in the family farmhouse in Edinboro, PA.
Growing up in Edinboro, with her sisters and brother, Sibyl attended a one-room schoolhouse.  Following her graduation in 1939 from Edinboro High School, she worked for the Dean and attended what is now Edinboro University.  During WWII, she moved to Corry with her family and took a break from her studies to work in the office at Aero Supply, a company that made airplane parts.  During the war she also traveled around the eastern and southern United States, selling books along with a friend, a grand adventure for two young ladies.  Sibyl graduated from Edinboro State Teachers College in January of 1945.
Married to Alton Hinman in 1947, Sibyl lived a life of serving others. Her gentle spirit and her love of life, laughter and stories were a testament to her faith. In addition to raising their two children she also taught English for a few years in Jefferson and Conneaut, OH.  Throughout their lives, the couple lived in several cities in PA and Ohio; she was active in her church in every community.  Upon her death, Sibyl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of North East.  A Deacon of the church, Sibyl was best known for her kindnesses to others and phone calls reminding folks that it was their week to usher, greet or work in the nursery!
Sibyl was preceded in death by her husband, Al, who she had been married to for 65 years, siblings Sally Millspaw Joy and Marvin Millspaw and grandson, Matthew Cheney.  She will be greatly missed by her sister, Sue Millspaw Kafferlin of Union City, PA, son Jeffrey and wife, Susan, of North East, daughter Kathe Cheney of Midlothian, VA, granddaughters Tiffany (Andrew) Emerick, Katherine (Christopher) Brown, Jennifer (Ryan) Emerson and Allison Cheney Cullison as well as eight great-grandchildren, dear nieces and nephews and a number of other close relatives and friends.
A celebration of Christian life is planned for Saturday, November 11, 2017.  A time for visiting with the family will commence at 10:00 AM with the service beginning at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church of North East, 25 East Main Street, North East, PA.  A light luncheon will follow at the church for family and friends.  William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East, will be handling all the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Manchester Commons, 6351 West Lake Road, Erie, PA 16505 or the capital fund of the First Presbyterian Church of North East.  Please send condolences to www.elkinfh.com.
